Overview

The aim of the course is the comprehensive training of musicians.

The course emphasizes on the structure and the connection between chords and is absolutely useful for the analysis of all musical works.

Harmony 1
Theory review, intervals, scales and key signatures
Major diatonic harmony, chord analysis, diatonic reharmonizations, chord progressions
Guide tones, guide tone lines and voice leading
Harmonic and melodic leadsheet analysis.
Prerequisite: Theory 2

Harmony 2
Secondary dominants, relative II-V, diatonic and non-diatonic chord scales
External chords and modal source
Minor diatonic harmony, harmonic and melodic chords and modes.
Blues (major, minor, bebop)
Harmonic and melodic leadsheet analysis in major and minor
Prerequisite: Harmony 1

Harmony 3
Unexpected falls of secondary dominants
Sub-dominant chords
Diminished chords and chord scales
Harmonic and melodic leadsheet analysis in major and minor
Prerequisite: Harmony 2

Harmony 4
Special function dominants
Contiguous dominants, constant structures
Hybrids, Polychords
Pedal point, ostinato
Modal harmony analysis and composition
Prerequisite: Harmony 3

The “Philippos Nakas – Learn Music Online” Program provides credits to students for successful completion of the course.

The lesson is taught in groups.
